As an unapologetic craft beer fan for almost my entire drinking life, I’ve gone through a few phases were I’d seek out one or two beer styles almost to the exclusion of all others.
I never drink yellow beer unless it’s hot out or I’m at a sporting event. There was a year where sweet, Belgian-style, high-alcohol-content brews made me lightheaded with enthusiasm – literally – but while there are a million to choose from, that habit got expensive because obscure Belgian beers with limited runs are expensive (Brooklyn’s fantastic Spuyten Duyvil offers what is arguably the best selection of Belgian beers available without a plane ticket to Brussels). But lately, I’ve been hardcore into IPAs. And by lately, I mean for the past three or four years.
