Wynkoop Goes Ape with Second Hand-Canned Beer

Silverback-can-170It's official, we've now released our second, small-batch, hand-canned treat, Silverback Pale Ale.

It's an artfully balanced beer with a citrusy aroma, crisp pale malt flavors and a satisfying hop character throughout. It has a refreshing hoppy finish, 40 International Bittering Units, and a comfortable 5.5% ABV.

Hoppy but highly sessionable, Silverback Pale Ale is made with grains of paradise for a unique spiciness and a novel twist on the American pale ale style.

The beer also allows us to ramp up the "gorilla marketing" we've been doing for years for the Denver-based Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. Fifty percent of all profits from the sale of the beer will go to the MGCF, and grains of paradise are a vital part of the diets of Lowland and Mountain Gorillas.

The beer is now available at six local spots: Argonaut Wine & Liquor, Lukas Liquors, Superior Liquors, Highlands Wine & Liquor, Wines off Wynkoop and Wynkoop Brewing Company. Next week it will begin appearing at our other retailers in the Denver area.

Rail Yard Ale

railyard-canTNOur most popular beer for nearly 20 years, Rail Yard Ale puts a unique twist on the biggest-selling style of craft beer in Colorado.

It’s made with the malts and hops typically used in a German Octoberfest lager, but fermented with a classic English ale yeast. The result is a hearty, refreshing and uniquely Western craft beer.

Rail Yard is an elegant, mahogany-colored beer with a creamy tan head, aromas of biscuit malts and sliced apples or pears, and flavors of toasted malts and caramel. It is 5.2 % ABV.

In age of increasingly “extreme” beer, Rail Yard is an extremely pleasing session beer for discerning beer lovers. One assertive enough to thrill beer geeks, but quaffable enough to please craft beer newcomers.

Created in 1992 at Wynkoop Brewing Company, Rail Yard is handmade in small, 20-barrel batches in classic “open” fermenters for extra neo-vintage charm. 5.2% ABV and 30 IBUs.

Available by the case in sixpacks of cans, and in 15.5 and 5.2 gallon kegs.

Why Cans?

rail-yard-canNow hand packaged one can at a time in 12-ounce aluminum cans, Rail Yard Ale is returning to local shelves after an 8-year hiatus from its earlier bottled days.

Why cans? Aluminum cans are the best package for beer. They keep beer fresher longer by providing complete protection from light and oxygen, a fresh beer’s worst enemy.

Cans are also immensely portable, free from weight and glass-breakage issues, and welcome in places where bottles are not.

Cans are also the “greenest” beer package. They are less fuel-consuming to ship, infinitely recyclable, and the most frequently recycled beverage package in the world.

A recycled can requires about 95% less energy and creates 95% less pollution than a can made from scratch.

Today cans are being embraced by a growing number of craft beer makers and consumers for all of these reasons.
