Since our start way back in 1988, Wynkoop Brewing Company has been a pioneer on the American beer landscape.
We were the first brewpub in the now beer-rich, craft beer heaven of Colorado. Our original brewer, Russell Scherer, brewed some of the first styles of craft beer ever brewed in the US and Colorado. Today our trade’s innovation award is named after the late, great Russell.
Our thirst for beers beyond the status quo led us to hand craft porters, meads and cask-conditioned beers (we were cask when cask wasn’t cool) and other current craft beer fixtures that beer lovers had never tasted before.
From the start our focus was on delicious, out of the mainstream, goose-bump-inducing beers of moderate strength. That tradition continues today, and Rail Yard Ale tops our list of complex, balanced, refreshing beers. It’s joined by our B3K Schwarzbier, Wixa Weiss and many others dispensed from our taps and beer engines.
Head brewer Andy Brown and his staff also flex our style muscles with more assertive (yet always balanced) beers. Our list of bigger, boundary-stretching beers includes double IPAs, barley wines, barrel-aged beers, Belgian-style treats, and brettanomyces-infused and other “wild” beers.
With the launch of our self-distribution effort in the local area, cans and kegs of Rail Yard -- and kegs of all of our other beers -- can be found in close to 100 outlets in the Denver area. Thanks to our hand canning effort, we’re blazing a new trail on the packaging front, too.
